Scaling to Success in Media and Telecommunications

The over-the-top (OTT) media is expected to surpass $200 billion in value by 2026, and grow at a CAGR of 14.1%.1 The increasing adoption of mass streaming is putting traditional cable TV and media providers at risk. Consumers expect personalized, secure, and rapidly accessible experiences. At the same time, OTT providers are looking for novel ways to enrich seamless cross-platform/cross-device experiences in order to drive their Net Promoter Scores (NPS) and increase their advertising revenue.

Meanwhile, the telecommunications industry finds itself playing catch-up in the digital transformation game, as margins continue to decline. Communication service providers (CSPs) are looking to capitalize on the 5G revolution to develop new B2C and B2C2X offerings. They’re also leveraging virtualized cloud-based infrastructure as well as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to support agile zero-touch operations. Accenture estimates that the telco cloud market will grow to $125 billion by 20302 as organizations embrace modular, reusable, and cloud-native IT architectures.

The emergence of headless architecture, which seeks to “decouple” the front-end and back-end of the traditional media and telco technology stack, as well as composable ecosystems, create extensive opportunities to accelerate digital investments.
