Becoming an IT hero: Giving your team the flexibility they want and the security they need

Thumb original become it hero

Any IT pro knows why this behavior—often called Shadow IT—is an issue. While many consumer tools often have great usability, they aren’t usually built to offer the security, speed and functionality required for professional use. Even so, business managers are using the rapidly evolving forces of cloud computing, social media and information management to adopt
new technology before IT departments even have a chance to discover it. This leads to employees working with free applications, as well as their personal laptops and smartphones—often without IT’s knowledge.

But the news isn’t all bad. IT departments have the power to change the way the rest of the business perceives them. Their value should lie in an intimate knowledge of the business they support and a unique ability to leverage the right technology. By combining this knowledge with the velocity and culture of the cloud, IT can implement user-friendly tools their co-workers love, enabling their organizations to work effectively, go to market faster and differentiate themselves in the marketplace.

Software-Defined Storage — Opportunities for the Enterprise

IDC believes that software-defined storage (SDS) continues to transform IT deployment and consumption of storage resources. Supercharge Your Apps with All-Flash Storage

The tipping point has arrived. Large enterprises are planning their nextgeneration datacenters around flash-based storage, and for good reason. Flash arrays provide read and write performance that is orders of magnitude faster than spinning media at a total cost of ownership that is on par with disk and will soon be lower. The benefits not only include improved application performance, but more consistent performance, lower latency, reduced storage footprint, streamlined storage administration, and lower operating costs. These advantages are to ...
