AFA Snapshot Implementations Will Broaden Use of Snapshot Technology

Snapshot technologies have long been a part of enterprise-class storage arrays. The ability to quickly create disk-based, point-in-time copies of data enables the data to be more easily accessed and used for business processes and administrative operations across both primary and secondary application environments. This paper examines enterprise-class snapshot technologies, discussing use cases for snapshots as well as classic challenges associated with using snapshot technologies in pure
hard disk drive (HDD)–based arrays. It then looks at a ...

Understanding All-Flash Architectures

All-Flash Architecture Matters

Today in the all-flash array market there are two architectures for data centers to choose from; scale out and scale up. Both have their unique strengths and weaknesses. Deciding on the right architecture for an organization’s data center first depends on identifying what its primary needs are. The problem is that needs often change but, in large part, storage architectures do not. ...

Rack Level High Density Liquid Cooling

Increased heat densities of IT Equipment (ITE) in high performance data centers continues to drive the need for more efficient and effective cooling technologies. Traditional air cooling is not a sustainable solution in these settings. While liquid cooling offers far greater efficiencies than air cooling, many liquid cooling options require large capital expenditures, are difficult to integrate with existing infrastructure, and present complications when upgrades or added capacity are needed.

This paper presents a rack level Hybrid Liquid C ...

For Dummies: NVMe over Fibre Channel

Unless you’ve been holed up in Siberia herding reindeer since the launch of Sputnik 1, you probably know that your kid’s hand-me-down iPhone 3 could whup the Apollo 13 in both computing and storage capacity. And you likely are aware that the intense pace of innovation is continuing. Today’s network speeds are not only millions of times faster, but carry millions of times more data per second. Processing speed has grown exponentially. As for storage, the contents of the entire Library of Congress can be squeezed into an affordable disk array. Ti ...
