A digitized company without the cloud? This is unthinkable in 2018. As early as the middle of the year, bitkom announced that two out of three companies were opting for cloud computing. Cloud computing is more than just a trend – for the majority of companies it is a fundamental component of their IT strategy. And this will continue to grow in the coming years. Together with the Digital Marketing Suite selfcampaign, we have analyzed which cloud topics occupy IT managers most in companies. The starting point for our research was a statistical survey of the websites visited by CIOs.
The analysis of the data makes it clear how ambivalently IT managers face the cloud. On the one hand, a digitization strategy without the cloud is unthinkable: The potential of the Internet of Things is by far the most popular cloud topic. According to the study, 30.91% of the cloud articles received dealt with Smart Office, intelligent logistics, production and other contemporary IoT topics.
At the same time, however, there is a need to clarify security concerns: 19.44% of the pages received dealt with security aspects. Not surprisingly, data protection is also perceived as a relevant topic (4.62%). The public cloud in particular is often viewed critically here. But private or separately secured clouds also cause discomfort for many IT decision-makers. Closely related to this is the issue of shadow IT, which was dealt with in 2.89% of all relevant articles.
An interesting trend is the striking combination of blockchain and cloud aspects (3.21%). The blockchain is still a young technology and its storage capacities are far from being as effective as the cloud. But the decentralized approach, which even allows data to be stored without a network connection, could become a serious competitor for the cloud in the future. CIOs also share this opinion – as 3.21% of the articles received show.
